The mirror displays the physical manifestation of Dr. Jekyll’s transformation into Mr. Hyde. It is Jekyll's first peek at the man who will carry out his dark desires. The mirror represents the paradox of mans' nature. His outward appearance and inner desires are joined. Although looking different from Jekyll, Hyde is still very much a part of him.
