In Chapter Two, Hyde becomes evermore mysterious, and his known relationship with Dr. Jekyll is questionable. Why would a respected doctor bail Hyde out after he trampled a little girl? Why is Hyde the benficiary of Jekyll's estate? Why is Lanyon unaware of Mr. Hyde.... he's never heard of him? By the end of the chapter, Utterson is convinced the relationship is based upon blackmail, as there could be no other in his way of thinking.
