Dr. Jekyll lives in a neat well furnished home that had “a great air of wealth and comfort.” This is juxtaposed with Jekyll's laboratory that has “a certain sinister block of building … it bore in every feature the marks of profound and sordid negligence.” The Laboratory is a reflection of the chaotic Hyde while the home represents orderly and civilized Jekyll.
