Was the reward Mephostophilis promised in exchange for Faustus' soul real?

Was it a real reward? Certainly not.... it was a curse. Faustus got the knowledge and power he craved, but he also got an eternity in hell to boot. Unfortunately, Faustus' didn't realize the cost of his bargain until it was too late.
