Faustus' damnation might be tragic in some way if he was a hero, except Faust was no hero. I don't believe he can be considered a tragic hero. Although he does contain many characteristics of Aristotle's classical definition, he lacks the good intentions or a sense of morality. Faust never has it in his heart to do anything "good" for much of the play. His eventual damnation is part of the deal he had made. God's intervention merely shoes His infinite mercy rather than any real redeeming traits of Faust himself.
