What is mercerism? How is it depicted in the film version ?
Mercerism is the novel's main religion; a religion in which humanity fuses with the suffering character of Mercer in order to gain a greater sense of collective empathy (see GradeSaver site for more). Mercerism is not a concept that is dealt with in the film.
