How long will Virgil stay with Dante and who will take his place at what point in the journey?

Virgil stays with Dante during the entire "Inferno." He also stays with him through the majority of "Purgatorio" until they meet Beatrice who then takes Dante through the rest of the Mountain of Purgatory experience and then into Paradise.
