Dauntless

The faction name "Dauntless" comes from the word "daunting" which would be used to describe something intimidating or fearful.

Divergent

To "diverge" means to move in different directions from a common point; in Tris's society, people who are divergent display an aptitude for multiple factions, therefore their minds split in different directions.

Duress

Compulsion by threat.

Erudite

Characterized by great knowledge, learned, or scholarly.

Faction

A group or clique within a larger group, party, government, or organization.

Fraternize

Associate with in a friendly way.

Hairline Fracture

A fracture in which the fragments of bone do not separate because the line of break is so fine.

A rough or rowdy person; a troublemaker.
