Speaker
The Speaker in the poem is encouraging women to take charge and control of their name, as it is their birthright and it gives them an identity, "Give your daughters names that command the full use of tongue". The Speaker is assumed to be Shire, who also stated that she is proud of her name, as it is "difficult" to pronounce and therefore it allows her to command more power and respect than simpler names would.
