    What is the significance of the references to nature in this section?

    Strong answers will look at references to the natural world in both the characters' lines and the author's notes, noting the variety of references in both areas. These should include the more objective comments about the scene, setting and character actions made by the narrator (author). And they would also include expressions of awe at everything from the sky to the land around the farm (Eben) and those about work and toil in that moment and over the years in relation to their overworked mother (all three brothers).
