Willy thrives on what he believes are friendships in the business world. He enjoys his contacts and clients and bases his own sense of popularity on the number of contacts or acquaintances he has. Unfortuantely, Willy has no real friends, and most of the people we meet throughout the story tolerate him rather than enjoy his presence.
