I think the title refers to both the death of Willy the salesmen and the death of his dreams. Willy's dreams of success turn to disillusionment when he cannot compete in the capitalist world. An extended metaphor might also involve Capitalism and the American Dream. The idea that under Capitalism, the American dream for many is simply an illusion: a dead dream. The system is rigged to help the rich and punish the floundering masses.
