Biff says, "Because we don't belong in this nuthouse of a city! We should be mixing cement on some open plain, or - or carpenters. A carpenter is allowed to whistle!" (44). What is the importance of this insight?

Biff is frustrated by the life his father has made for them. He laments the fact that his father is so unsuccessful at business and that people make fun of him. Biff thinks that they might get some respect as laborers and have the autonomy to whistle when they work.
