  1. 1

Why did America decide to remain neutral in World War I?

Throughout the book, the reader realizes that America remained neutral in World War I and left the British and German soldiers to fight independently. Consequently, America did not want to get involved in the war because it did not want to take sides. Even after the Germans provoked the USA by sinking the Lusitania ship, America was keen not to get involved in the conflict, but it sought amicable solutions.

  2. 2

What is unique about the Lusitania ship?

The Lusitania made history in 1907 when it was declared as the fasted ship across the Atlantic Ocean. The ship operated for many years after that until 1915, when it made its last journey before it was sunk by German submarines. The entire book revolves around the incidences surrounding the Lusitania ship, including the provocation of the Germans to trigger the United States of America to join World War I.

  3. 3

Were the German submarines justified to sink the Lusitania?

The German authorities were clear from the beginning that they did not want any ship to cross its water territory, and it warned the Lusitania not to attempt the crossing. However, the captain of Lusitania believed that he had the fastest ship in the world and he could manage to cross the German waters before being caught. Unfortunately, the Germans had earlier monitored the ship and bombed it as soon as it entered its territory. Despite the Lusitania ship going against the German directives, sinking it with all the passengers was an inhumane act that cannot be justified. Instead, the German authorities should have captured the Lusitania ship and force the Americans to pay for the violation of the laid down rules on the German waters.
