I suppose it presents the lives of different people who struggle to realize who they are and express this. Mr. Keating teaches his boys/students to learn to think for themselves and make choices on who they are rather than society telling them. Unfortunately, in this very conformist prep school, individual thought and expression was not looked kindly upon.
