I think the theme of sexuality is definitely at play here. The story chronicles the relationship between Roger and a young bullfighter. The young bullfighter fails in his obligations towards Roger (his manager). Roger blames the bullfighter's lax sense of responsibility on his diva-like disposition arising from his sexuality. Roger calls him a queen using both the pampered royal connotation and as well as the homosexual connotation. Some critics argue that Roger is a spurned ex-lover which brings up the theme of gay relationships as well.
