I recommend that you look at the Wyatt Study Guide on this site.

The poemis a sonnet written in the style refined by Wyatt himself, building onthe traditions ofPetrarch and other European poets. In this sonnet, the narrator is frustrated by the treatment he is given by one to whom he has been loyal. It is possible to interpret the intended audience as a former lover, as traditional sonnet form would dictate, but also as his leader and monarch, Henry VIII.
