What do you think is Columbus's attitude toward the Taino?

Columbus describes the Taino as:

"good and intelligent servants for I see that they say everything that is said to them …," and later in the same passage remarking that "no animals did I see on this island except parrots.

How would you describe Columbus’s attitude toward the islanders?
