The narrator seems to have detached himself from life. This this detachment includes the relationship with his wife. We can sense some hostility between the two. This can be because of the narrator's drinking and drug use or unresolved issues from his wife's past. There is also a jealousy that the narrator harbors about his wife's emotional bond with the visiting blind man.
