Why did the other tributes work so hard to keep Peeta alive?
The District 13 plan to rescue Katniss and start the revolution depended only on Katniss surviving. But throughout the Hunger Games, other tributes sacrifice their lives and health to protect Peeta. The conspirators — Haymitch and Plutarch — know that keeping Peeta alive is paramount to protecting Katniss. Without Peeta, Katniss would likely be unable or unwilling to continue. She would have no reason to keep herself alive as she would have failed to protect him. Therefore the best way to protect Katniss was to keep Peeta safe, so she'd have something to lose and someone to hold on to.
