Call of the Wild

"He worked faithfully in the harness, for the toil had become a delight to him; yet it was a greater delight slyly to precipitate a fight amongst his mates and tangle the traces." How can these two sets of values co-exist in one creature?

Dealing with "faithfully" and "slyly".

This quote portrays Buck's playful side. On one hand, he's learned his job and enjoys performing it faithfully. On the other hand, he's still playful enough to play pranks and and have fun with the rest of the group.
