Did Jack London have a good relationship with his step-father?

In his novel " The Call of the Wild", he had a character who saved a dog from a bad life, but later on the character had died. His name was John Thorton, and his step-father's name was John London. I was just wondering if there was any connection between the two of them.

I wasn't able to find any information about the relationship between London and his stepfather beyond the fact that his mother married John London when he was only eight months old. Thus, John London would have been the only father Jack had ever known.
