Describe the type of dog in the Northland and why are they needed.

These men wanted dogs, and the dogs they wanted were heavy dogs, with strong muscles by which to toil, and furry coats to protect them from the frost.

The dogs are needed as sled dogs..... dogs that are physically able to pull an enormous amount of weight, as the sleds held both supplies and men.
