Curly vs Spitz death?

What was the mood when spitz died on the passage and the mood when curly died?

Curly sweet Newfoundland dog, one of Buck's first companions after he has been kidnapped. She is unexpected killed for trying to make friendly advances toward another dog.I think Buck mourned her death. Spitz constantly challenged Buck. Spitz was also harsh on the other dogs. I don't think the other dogs cared when Spitz is defeated and killed.
