Chapter 11 is called the evil spell why do you think the author chose to call this

I think the brutal departure from reality has something to do with the title of this chapter. The author puts the reader in Jess's place, to try to imagine the anguish that would cause such a complete retreat from reality: it is sort of an unwanted spell.
