I think this can be a pretty involved essay in terms of gender roles and sexual freed for women. WW2 became a catalyst for sexual and social identity for women. This is reflected in the story through Holly. The other stuff you mentioned play into this. The question is far too large to address in this space though. Check out the GradeSaver link below,
