I suppose this depends on what freedom was defined as. A man like John Savage could not reconcile his artistic and empathetic soul with the crushing superficiality of the brave new world. There seemed to be nowhere for him to go. One would have to consider if they are able to function, even covertly, in a society that mandates social engineering and conformity.
