Describe power maintenance in Brave new world and 1984 novels?

In both books the maintenance of power is literally what the New World is. Power is a means to a socially desirable end, the maintenance of this power is the means to keep power perpetually. In 1984 O’Brien sums this up when he says,

"If you want a picture of the future, imagine a boot stamping on a human face — forever."

Similarly in BNW, Huxley sets up a society where people are artificially conceived and "programmed" with the intention to maintain indefinite power for the government.
