Chapter 2 of the book Brave New World

Hypnopædia was first discovered when a young boy named Reuben accidently had a radio turned on in his room after falling asleep. The radio was broadcasting a program by Geirge Bernard Shaw, and even though Reuben didn't understand it, he commited the words to memory. Thus.... the discovery of hypnopaedia, although, "The principle had been discovered; but many, many years were to elapse before that principle was usefully applied."
