Although Linda wants to return to the World State, the Reservation is a far more meaningful place to be. For both Linda and John, the reservation might have been harsh but at least it was real. Emotions like pleasure, pain, loss and love meant meaning in their lives. Real social attachments were possible rather than disposable everything. In the end, John kills himself over his conflicting emotions in the vacuous world of the World State.
