It is interesting that Antonio learns a lot about how to be a man from an old lady (Ultima). For Antonio, manhood is more than running a farm, beating up other men, or even becoming a priest. Ultima guides Tony into manhood by considering traits like honor, protecting the weak, and seeing beyond the obvious. Manhood means being able to tackle life's questions with patience and wisdom instead of violence and insecurity.
