Why does Wright feel outside the law and claims white people “had told me so”?

Wright is referring to the double standard of "white law". The white law was forever in the white favour. Wright was easily prosecuted while being exempt from any protections they might offer a white man. Wright says he had been told that he remains outside of the "white law"" by white people. His only experience would come if he said, did or even thought the wrong thing around a white man.
