Black boy

he family's move to Memphis makes Richard's father becomes alienated, hostile, and violent. Father has no prospects and he i a raging alcoholic. He refuses to support his family, he eats most of their food, and probably hates himself. He leaves the family pretty soon after they move to Memphis. His father beats Richard and basically starves the familly by eating all the food. He is a drunkard who eventually leaves the family.
