what are the character traits of Black Beauty in chapter 12?

Black beauty is loyal to his aster as well as has insights into things that humans lack. Black Beauty refused to go over a bridge even though his master commanded that he go. Something was not right with the bridge and in a few moments they found out what that was: the bridge had collapsed and, had they proceeded, they most certainly would have plunged to their deaths.
