Kenning- A compound expression in Old English and Old Norse poetry with metaphorical meaning, e.g., oar-steed = ship. (online dictionary)

Comitatus was a Germanic social structure that compelled kings to consult with their warriors over pressing matters of war. They would form what is called a "war band".
