Beowulf is all about the warrior and the hero’s quest. In Beowulf's society war and conquest mean honour so consequences of revenge aren’t high on their "things to consider" list. They are Vikings and Vikings fight, that's just what they do. Having coffee with Grendel and going through the steps for conflict resolution isn't what a great Geat warrior did. It is however, a distinct possibility that taking revenge may in fact mean a consequence of death but that was the accepted price a warrior made.
