Beowulf

How does treasure function in beowulf?

How do the character and the poet seem to feel about the element of gold,as it appears through the story?

Certainly gold is a prized possession. It becomes something worth fighting and dying for. Gold validates greatness in battle; it represents the spoils of war. When a dying Beowulf lies bleeding and torn after the fight with the dragon, he asks Wiglaf to fetch some dragon gold so he can die looking at it.
