Introduce the concept of suspending disbelief and set the stage for the supernatural elements of the novel.

Ask the class who believes in ghosts, and who does not. Have a couple of students from each side of the argument defend why they feel the way they do. Then test their "rememory" by inviting students to share ghost stories. Ask if anyone has ever seen a ghost themselves; invite a few of these students to tell their personal stories of paranormal experiences....
