Sure he was, this was part of hid identity or at least what he wanted people to think about him. In this patriarchal society, feats of strength and bravery were valued in males. Okonkwo compensated for his father's shortcomings by his heroic exploits in war and in the wrestling circle. This strength and bravery became Okonkwo's calling card, both became his identity.
