    Objective:

    Students will understand the references implied by the title and consider their relevance to the play

    Common Core Standards:

    CCSS.ELA-LITERACY.RL.11-12.1, CCSS.ELA-LITERACY.RL.11-12.3, CCSS.ELA-LITERACY.RL.11-12.4

    Structure:

    Project images of the three paintings titled Et In Arcadia Ego, two by Poussin and one by Guercino.

    Distribute a copy of the poem of the same title by W.H. Auden, and read aloud as a class.

    Distribute an informational sheet about Arcadia in Ancient Greece.

    As a class, reread the segment of Act One, Scene One in which Thomasina, Lady Croom, and Septimus discuss the phrase.
