Almost Ogilvy

Who is the person you dream of becoming and how do you believe Syracuse University can help you achieve this?

David Ogilvy had a diverse career span. After his experience with Aga Cookers, he came to America and joined in the efforts of many Madison Avenue firms, before signing up for the MI6 during WWII. He would eventually become known as the “Father of Modern Advertising,” but also enjoyed a brief stint as a tobacco farmer in Pennsylvania.

I don’t wish to become Ogilvy in every sense of the man. Nonetheless, I plan on expanding my leadership skills along similar lines. I wish to have a varied career -- dabbling in various fields and professions (besides, who doesn’t want to be a spy for at least a part of his lifetime). The majors at the S.I. Newhouse School of Public Communications do not restrict themselves to one field. Instead, every major in itself offers a study of eclectic sub-fields. Personally, I believe that online journalism is where the media industry is headed and, with Newhouse as a pioneer in the field, I know that I will be poised to succeed.
