Pangaea broke up into several continents.

Gymnosperms (seed bearing plants) spread across land. Prior to this, trees needed to live near the water's edge to grow. These plants didn't require free standing water for fertilization, and thus could thrive in drier areas.

Reptiles dominated the land.

At the end of this period many plants and animals became extinct. It is believed that a meteor may possibly have struck the earth creating dust that blocked the sun. This dust and lack of sunlight killed plants, which then caused mass starvation among herbivores, and as a result carnivores no longer had food.
