Dulce et Decorum Est pro patria mori by Wilfred Owen famous poet and famous soldier died on November 14, 1917 I think killed in action.

He was killed in action one week before the Armistice ending World War I was signed.  He was fighting at the front at the time of his death.  He was actually promoted to the rank of lieutenant, although the news did not reach the front where he was fighting until after his actual death.
