What is a mirage? How did the mirage impact the views/belief of Kino’s people?

Mirage:An optical illusion caused by atmospheric conditions.

Something that appears real or possible but is not.

Kino's people looked to the seas and the sights for omens. They distrusted anything that they could not see clearly as evil meant to trick them.
