The Glass Menagerie has a place in today's world because we all have dreams, many of which are unrealized. This lack of fulfillment of dreams shows something that is universal to all people, in all places, at all times. People often like to consider this as somewhat autobiographical for Tennessee Williams, so they also find it interesting as one of Williams' larger body of work. It is popular because the characters are well filled out and easily identifiable.
