Page 85 of Anthem says, “But questions come to us again, as we walk in silence. If that which we have found is the corruption of solitude, then what can men wish for save corruption? If this is the great evil of being alone, then what is good and what is evil?” Explain what Equality 7-2521 meant by this.

Equality 7-2521 is basking in the new freedom of being an individual, He feels a sense of re-birth in nature. He and Liberty 5-3000 feel alive for the first time. Equality then questions everything he has been taught. If their new life of non-conformity is corruption, how is it that they feel so alive and vital? Solitude becomes sacred as opposed to being evil. Equality is re-evaluating everything he has been programed to believe.
