Burning House

I teach high school English.  I love having kids read Bradstreet's "Upon the Burning of Our House."  It illustrates how to cope with a traumatic loss.  Today it seems that life completely stops when something bad happens--especially for teenagers.  They just can't function when someone has died or they have lost their math paper.  Mrs. Bradstreet lost nearly everything she owned, but she grieved the loss and moved on, grateful for what she had instead of bemoaning what she lost.  An excellent lesson for teenagers.

What other works show people dealing with trauma?
