Why is Boxer so determined to see the windmill finished?

Boxer's only goal is to see the windmill off to a good start before he retires.

This was his project. It was because of Boxer that this thing was even feasible. Boxer did the heavy work and it was his contribution to the animal utopia or rather dystopia.
