while the farm prospers life is harder and harder for the animals. the narrator says if life was hard it was "probably offset by the life nowadays had greater dignity than it had before." what was it that gave this dignity?

Although the animals were abused by pigs, at least the pigs were still animals. The dignity they felt that at least they were not being used by humans.
