Both pigs have a sense of leadership. They fight over the way the farm should run and what should be done to get there. For Napoleon, Snowball becomes a threat to his own power. It is important to note that even Snowball's good ideas, like the windmill, are a threat to Napoleon because autocrats or Dictators crave all the glory. The animals represented the proletariat who could not see what these arguments illuminated about both leaders.
